Youth Day Community Engagement by YOSPIS in Minjibir Community
As part of its International Youth Day Community Engagement, the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) conducted an awareness session with young people at Kasko Community in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State.
The engagement brought together youth leaders and students for meaningful discussions on YOSPIS’s mission, vision, and community-based activities. The session also provided an opportunity to identify and discuss some of the key challenges affecting young people in the community.
Key issues discussed included menstrual hygiene and the need for adequate support for young girls, drug and substance abuse, thuggery and other harmful activities among youths, as well as the lack of employable skills contributing to poverty and unemployment.
The session encouraged young people to make positive and informed choices, develop relevant skills, reject violence and harmful practices, and actively contribute to the development, peace, and security of their communities.
YOSPIS expressed its willingness to strengthen collaboration with youth and community leaders in Minjibir Local Government Area to promote youth empowerment, peacebuilding, community security, and social development. The organization emphasized that strong community partnerships are essential to preventing violence, addressing social vices, and sustaining peace and security in Minjibir, Kano State, and beyond.
YOSPIS reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with communities and young people through awareness creation, advocacy, capacity building, recreation, and other community-based initiatives aimed at building a safer, more peaceful, empowered, and prosperous society.
