The Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) has engaged members of the Youth Peace and Security Network (YPSN) in a strategic session aimed at strengthening youth participation in peacebuilding and community development across Kano State.

Held in Kano, the engagement brought together youth leaders, peace advocates, and development stakeholders to develop practical, scalable solutions for community security, conflict prevention, and inclusive development through youth-led initiatives.

Facilitators from YOSPIS led hands-on sessions on grassroots peacebuilding, stakeholder engagement, and the design of sustainable community-based interventions.

Discussions highlighted the role of young people in early warning systems, conflict resolution, and civic participation.

Speaking at the session, YOSPIS Executive Director, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, stressed the importance of harnessing youth energy and leadership in addressing emerging security challenges.

Ahmad noted that young people must be seen as active partners in peace and development, not passive beneficiaries.

“When equipped with the right tools, knowledge, and platforms, young people become powerful agents of transformation within their communities,” she said.

She also called for stronger collaboration among civil society, government institutions, and community leaders to create an enabling environment for youth-led initiatives to thrive.

The session emphasized sustained advocacy, capacity building, and resource mobilization to deepen youth engagement, particularly in areas facing complex socio-economic and security challenges.

YOSPIS reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying youth voices and converting innovative ideas into impactful action, urging stakeholders to invest in youth-led solutions as a pathway to lasting peace in Kano State and beyond.

The initiative aligns with national and global youth, peace, and security frameworks recognizing young people as critical actors in building resilient societies.

Participants concluded the session by reaffirming their commitment to scale up peacebuilding efforts, strengthen local structures, and promote sustainable development across their communities.
